The other differences just come from differences in polish and amount of content. The trade economy is a much bigger deal in PoE. Just about everything in PoE is tradeable and thus value of non equippable item is their ability to generate power directly or indirectly. The game's economy is based around the strength of these tradeable Orbs instead and how strongly they can modify items to create the gear. The last major difference is that PoE does not have any Gold and mechanics that modify items usually drop as an Orb item. A Witch can use a Mace weapon and use melee attacks, a Marauder Juggernaut can use a bow and a Ranger class can cast spells. The combination of Skills as an item and shared passive skill tree meaning theoretically any class can do anything within reason and logical sense. There are also Support gems that augment Active skill gems in major way (think like Diablo 3 Runes for a skill only you get to attach 4 additional ones to the skill and there are hundreds of options). You don't unlock new skills to use by leveling up, you unlock them by getting quest rewards, purchase from NPCs, loot them or trade with other players. Your class dictates your starting point on that passive tree and what Ascendancies they have (think of them like sub classes, each class had 3 options).Īnother major difference is that skills that you actually use in game play are dropped as Gems and are socketed into gear. In PoE all classes share the same passive tree and with 6 classes that is why you have such a big one. Click to shrink. It looks and plays like a Diablo game but there are key differences.Ī major one being that class identity is more defined in Diablo games and less defined in PoE.
